Understanding Poverty Group Experience

Would you like to have a deeper understanding of the experience of poverty in our local community? From 6:30 - 8:00 pm on January 26, AUMC will host a poverty simulation developed by CitySquare staff members based on their interactions with our neighbors in the Dallas area. In this group activity, participants ”experience” life in Dallas through the lens of four characters from different socio-economic backgrounds. Each character is given a set deck of cards with real-life circumstances and scenarios. Participants experience the effects of each scenario as moves on the board game.

During a 40-min period, participants will gain insight into what life is like living in poverty and be exposed to structural barriers that shape the day-to-day of individuals experiences homelessness and poverty. The activity is completed with an open discussion facilitated by CitySquare staff members.

Please consider bringing a snack/drink to share with the group. Group size is limited so sign up soon! This event is suitable for children ages 10 and up.
