Welcoming a Refugee Family: How You Can Help
The storage unit is ready, and our hearts are open. As we prepare to welcome a new refugee family to the Dallas area, Arapaho UMC is partnering with Church World Services (CWS) to provide a warm, fully furnished home for a family starting a new chapter. While we wait for the new administration to restart the refugee resettlement program, we are actively gathering essential household items to ensure we’re ready to extend hospitality as soon as we’re assigned a family—hopefully in February.
To make this vision a reality, we’re collecting donations through Friday, February 7, 2025. Your generosity can help transform an empty space into a safe, welcoming home. We are looking for new or gently used (in excellent condition) items to furnish an apartment for a family of four.
If you'd like to contribute, here’s how:
Select an item from the donation list. (click here)
Drop off your item at the church (east door) by February 7. You’ll find wooden bins labeled “Refugee Donations” near the east door and in the lobby. If you ring the doorbell at the east entrance, someone will meet you to assist with the drop-off. (note: drop-offs must be made during office hours)
We kindly request that most items be new, though slightly used furniture in good condition is welcome.
For those with a heart for hands-on service, we also invite you to help set up the apartment. To volunteer or ask questions about the donation process, contact Kathleen Modine at (modinejolly@gmail.com).
Your contributions—whether it’s a set of dishes, a cozy blanket, or time spent setting up the space—will play a vital role in creating a foundation of hope and stability for a family embarking on a new journey. Thank you for being part of this mission to embody love and compassion in action.
