In recognition of the blessing of all creation, you are invited to a Blessing of the Animals on the north lawn at AUMC on October 22, from 3:30 - 4:45 pm. Children from AUMC in grades 4-6 will assist with this event.

In the Roman Catholic tradition, October 4 is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis (1182-1226) was a monk who founded the contemporary order of Franciscans. Among many other things, he was known for his vow of poverty and his special connection to animals. Many Protestant churches have picked up on the Catholic tradition of blessing animals—particularly pets--on this day.

We'll have a short devotional and then share a specific blessing for each animal (yes, even lizards or snakes). With owners’ permission, pets will receive a treat. If your pet is prone to anxiety around others, please consider keeping the animal on the side with a yellow ribbon (which we will provide). We look forward to meeting the animal members of your family!
